ABOUT Jordy Thibert
Jordy Thibert is a passionate Metis professional. As a Red River Metis and citizen of the Metis Nation of Alberta Jordy’s passion for adolescent inclusion and perspective in Truth and Reconciliation is matched with his energy for ensuring Indigenous people aren’t left behind in the digital age. A majority of Jordys Career to date has been within the Hospitality industry. Starting off his adulthood by going to Culinary school and receiving a diploma in Culinary arts at the prestigious private Pacific Institute of Culinary arts Jordy found a passion for food and beverage. As his career started to drift away from the kitchen to management, Jordy quickly became one of the youngest Managing Partners with the Original Joes Restaurant Chain based out of Western Canada. With his first General Manager job at the ripe age of 21, Jordy learned quickly how to step up and be responsible and accountable for a large team of people and learned necessary operational and leadership skills required to run a full service restaurant. One of the highly transferable skills he developed over the years but luckily also came quite naturally was "The gift of Gab" … Speaking to customers, vendors and team members always came fairly easy to him. Since leaving the Hospitality industry Jordy sought out to make more of an impact while heading on a journey to understand is heritage and where he comes from. He has done so through his role as Director of Indigenous Relations at one of Canadas top ranked IT/Cybersecurity Companies. Quickly piecing together the need to advocate for bridging the digital divide and tech gap that indigenous people and communities are facing compared to urban society. Jordy brings a sense of humour, fresh perspective, an extensive network, a deep understanding of people and high self awareness that allows him to learn and grow as he navigates his Indigeneity and his place in the journey of truth and reconciliation.
My Why:
"Working with the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton is deeply meaningful to me because Christmas has always been my favourite holiday and I am lucky enough to have so many positive stories around Christmas but the unfortunate reality is that the holidays can be overwhelming, sad, stressful and more of a burden on some peoples lives then anything. Growing up, I learned the importance of giving back to community, human decency/caring for others and gratitude. Today, I have the privilege and the ability of giving back in a different way, helping an organization that has brought hope to Edmonton families for generations. For me, it’s about using my skills, experience, and network to strengthen our community and ensure more families feel supported, valued, and cared for when they need it most."
