85th Anniversary Committee Member

In 2025, the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton will celebrate 85 years of serving Edmontonians. To celebrate this milestone, the CBE intends to launch a five-year fundraising campaign to raise $16,000,000 to support the ongoing delivery of services to Edmontonians in need. The 85th Anniversary Committee is an adhoc committee reporting to the Board. The Committee will support the Board and Operating Team in advancing the 85th Anniversary Capital Campaign and fund development initiatives.

Specific committee duties shall include:

  • Supporting the development of the fund development and campaign strategy with the operations team.
  • Identifying and working with the operations team to approach key donors.
  • Supporting media opportunities and overall promotion of the campaign.
  • Networking in the community to build awareness of the campaign.
  • Reporting to the Board of Directors on the success of the campaign.

Who Should Apply? Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • Firstly, you’re a fan of the Christmas season (and giving back to the community)
  • Understanding of and support of the Christmas Bureau’s mission, values, and purpose
  • Understanding of basic fundraising principles and best practices
  • Diverse knowledge and cultural understanding of marginalized communities
  • Time for all committee duties and related activities (3-4 hours per month), plus an additional 8 hours of volunteer work within a calendar year

Fundraising Committee Member

The Fundraising Committee is a new adhoc committee reporting to the Board via the Fundraising Committee Chair. The Committee assists the board to ensure economic continuity of the Christmas Bureau by raising funds to facilitate organizational strategic objectives and operational activities. Specific duties shall include:

  • Reviewing the fundraising practices of the Christmas Bureau annually to analyze funding source trends both for the Christmas Bureau and elsewhere in the charitable community.
  • Development of a two-year fundraising strategic framework based on the board approved strategic plan.
  • Providing support to the Manager, Partnerships and Engagement and the Executive Director in the development of an annual fundraising plan.
  • Working closely with the Communications Committee to communicate the Bureau’s financial needs, promoting fundraising activities.
  • Engaging, supporting, and encouraging all fundraising activities and promotions of the Christmas Bureau.
  • Preparing and presenting to the Board of Directors a committee work plan and regular updates, based on the approved Christmas Bureau Strategic Plan.

  • Finance and accounting experience
  • Diverse knowledge and cultural understanding of marginalized communities

Board of Directors Member

Our Board of Directors is a volunteer-based Governance Board comprised of professionals from varying industries including tech, government, corporate, post-secondary, and local entrepreneurs. The role of the Board is to:

  • Develop the organization’s mission, mandate, vision and strategic direction, and goals Complete yearly review of the strategic direction and goals
  • Establish and monitor governing policies and practices
  • Establish and monitor annual work plans and budgets providing a strong financial oversight Provide effective governance to ensure organizational sustainability and resilience
  • Promote and support the Christmas Bureau mission, mandate and purpose

Who Should Apply? Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate their support of the Christmas Bureau’s mission, mandate, values, and principles through the following actions:

  • Attendance at Board/Committee meetings, orientation, planning, and evaluation sessions
  • Active promotion and support of the Christmas Bureau’s events and activities
  • Open and honest participation in Board’s deliberations and decisions
  • Knowledge and cultural understanding of the marginalized communities that we serve
  • Time for all Board duties and related activities (3-4 hours per month)

Focus for this recruitment period will be on individuals who reflect the communities that we are serving, ensuring a diversity of perspectives and thoughts on how to best serve our clients. Experience in any of the following areas would be an asset:

  • Not-for-profit experience
  • Financial/accounting background
  • Human Resources background
  • Cultural competence and knowledge of different cultural practices and world views
